Because of a car accident and without family, I was forced into a “rehab” facility. Their claims of having specialized wound care staff were untrue and my wounds were neglected. They grew tired of my insistence that soiled bandages be changed and left the supplies in my room so I could change them myself. Frequently they tried to give me medication I knew wasn’t mine. And when my wounds drained onto my bed linens, no one came to change the bloody sheets and blankets despite many requests. Finally asked for clean linen to be left and I would change it myself. So many instances of neglect and I was traumatized. Without someone to check on me daily, I cannot bear what my fate might be if care is left to the vagaries of a corporation. If forced into a nursing home again, if I have the opportunity, I would end my own life.

I’m so sorry you experienced that, Kate. That is horrific.

This infuriates me, I am an RN and have worked ltc a long time, there are so many places that need to be exposed for how patients are treated or actually untreated, especially those who can not care for themselves, I am not working right now and seeing how many medical professionals have treated my patients I really don't know if I want to continue as an RN. I loved my patients and I treated them as family, so many patients have talked to me and they aren't treated well at all.

It’s really devastating hearing how vast the issue truly is.

People can be trained to care for patients, and yes the training is on a computer a video, this is not proper training for anyone in healthcare, the people that cause issues would have a fit if it was their family. That was one thing that stuck with me from nursing school, and 20 years later I still function like these patients are treated like my family, by me anyway, and even when I have voiced concerns and complaints to management, it always fell on deaf ears..heartbreaking
